Summer 2018

Here are a few pictures of my sewing room:

The colorful squares hanging on the wall are 40 swatches from 40 different types of fabrics.  I am trying to teach my students to recognize and understand each one. The sculpture on the shelf was sculpted by my husband Marvin. It's my grandmother Lydia Stillman, one of the most accomplished seamstresses I've ever known.

The ironing boards fold up and down as needed and each student has their own iron. The cubbies under the cutting tables hold the students' projects.

Yes, all the machines have names, including Flash the serger.

The colorful boxes contain fabric scraps organized by color. These are always available and free to my students. The thread on this wall is for embroidery.

In the corner, you see my dress form. Her name is Lafawnduh and she is always modeling a new look designed by one of my students.

Monster Tree
Image result for felt monsters
I am going to make a monster tree to be auctioned off
at the Festival of Trees-
2018 (if you want more information see their website:)
https://intermountainhealthcare.org/locations/primary-
childrens-hospital/giving-volunteering/intermountain-
foundation/news-and-events/festival-of-trees/
All the money made at the festival goes to help very sick
children for Primary Children's Hospital. Each student is
making a unique monster ornament(s) to hang on this tree.
The monsters will vary in size and can be designed by your
student. I will make the skirt and star and
unveil the completed tree at the Skills Show in August. Here
is a picture of some monsters my students have made so far.
